I am writing in response to your [M.A.
Fleming] letter of July 11, 2000 concerning Roadway Worker Protection.
Yes, we in the field are trying to do our part in protecting both
ourselves and our brothers while working about the railroad. Your
letter was a very important reminder of what must be done to protect
all of us from injury or worst of all needless deaths. As a 26-year,
injury-free employee for Penn Central, Conrail and now CSX, I have
been trying to do my part to make zero roadway worker fatalities a
reality. Thanks to you and your staff for working along with the FRA
to make this possible.
Also received your letter of July 7, 2000 concerning the BMWE
negotiations. As a track inspector on CSX (Chicago Line-Rochester,
NY), I feel that it's important we are compensated for the work we do,
but also that we in the BMWE do the work that is ours. Keep up the
good work in negotiations.
Often we hear "that's what I pay my dues for," but I feel
that you and your staff often go above and beyond for the good of the
Brotherhood. Again, keep up the good job and your message is getting
to the field and is appreciated by myself and others locally.
We will keep getting the word out to the Brotherhood in the field.
