Since 1991, the Union Plus Scholarship Program has awarded more than $5.6 million to students of union families. Over 4,000 union families have benefited from our commitment to higher education.
BMWED members and family are eligible for the Union Plus Scholarship. Amounts range from $500 to $4,000. These one-time cash awards are for study beginning in the Fall of 2025. Students may re-apply each year. In 2024 BMWED had 4 winners totaling over $2,500 in scholarship funds.
The BMWED is proud to have several Sisters present at this year’s Teamsters Women’s Conference representing the Teamsters Rail Conference.
The BMWED National Association met June 26 in Cherokee, N.C. for a full day’s agenda of pressing topics facing the Brotherhood and its membership.
Union Plus recently awarded $200,000 in scholarships to 209 students representing 42 unions, including four winners representing the Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way Employes Division of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters (BMWED-IBT).

Effective Jan. 1, 2025, BMWED members covered under the National Plan will have a new pharmacy benefit manager (PBM). Optum Rx will replace Express Scripts, Inc. All covered plan members, including eligible spouses and dependents, will automatically be enrolled.
