The BMWED-IBT received notice today from the National Railway Labor Conference and those rail carriers negotiating together under the National Carriers’ Conference Committee (NCCC) initiating National Bargaining pursuant to Section 6 of the Railway Labor Act. The Brotherhood will respond in kind with its own Section 6 notice addressed to the individual railroads Monday, officially initiating the next bargaining round.

Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way Employes and Brotherhood of Railroad Signalmen members on AMTRAK have reached a tentative agreement with the nation’s largest passenger railroad on a 7-year contract that calls for a 28.5 percent general wage increase retroactive to 2022.

Included here are the votes in the U.S. House of Representatives and the U.S. Senate on legislation to add seven (7) paid sick days to the National Agreement with the Class 1 freight railroads.

Today, the Senate voted and passed legislation to adopt tentative agreements between the railroads and Unions to resolve this round of national negotiations and avert a national rail strike. A disruption to our nation’s economy and supply chain has been averted. But the Senate also voted to reject the bill that would provide paid sick leave for all Railroad Workers.

The U.S. House of Representatives today passed two bills in separate votes, the first effectively halting our ability to strike on Dec. 9 by enforcing the tentative agreement rejected by BMWED membership earlier this year. The second, on mostly a party line vote, added seven paid sick days to the agreement, something we have lobbied for weeks.
