The Farm Workers beat back an attempt by AeroMexico to steal
the proud Latino slogan Sí Se Puede (Yes, we can). Last year the airline filed a
trademark application claiming it had created the slogan for use in the airline industry.
After months of litigation between the union and airline, AeroMexico withdrew its
trademark application. Sí Se Puede was coined by César Chavéz and UFW co-founder
Dolores Huetra while Chavéz was fasting in Phoenix, Ariz., in 1972. The announcement came
on March 31, which would have been Chavéz's 71st birthday. He died in 1993. |
