According to the bargaining survey taken in the spring of this
year, the average BMWE member is in his late 40s or early 50s, is
married, has children, one or two who are still at home, and has
worked for the railroad around 20 years. Whether they fit the average
profile or not, BMWE members are like other workers -- concerned about
their wages, their job security, their retirement, their health
benefits, their working conditions. And like other Americans, BMWE
members are concerned about their families and their communities. On
the following pages you will read about what's on the minds of a
representative sampling of BMWE members as they're about to enter the
21st Century.
