Merger Ballot Results

On August 15, 2001, 40,559 ballots were sent to BMWE members to vote on a merger with the International Brotherhood of Boilermakers, Iron Ship Builders, Blacksmiths, Forgers and Helpers. On September 24 and 25, 2001, the 18,434 votes returned (45%) were counted. The merger proposal was defeated with 8,758 members voting in favor (47.51%) and 9,676 members voting against (52.49%).
