The Federal Employers' Liability Act, or FELA, is a law that governs how rail workers or their loved ones can be compensated for injuries, illnesses, or fatalities suffered while on the job. Railroad workers do NOT receive Workers' Compensation like other American workers.
Our members and our families should all be familiar with how to respond to a workplace injury, illness, or fatality. This page offers our members and our families more resources to understand FELA, how it works, and what to do in case they get hurt while at work on the railroad.
If you or your loved one does suffer a work-related illness, injury, or fatality, contact your BMWED representative and your BMWED Designated Legal Counsel (DLC) as soon as you can!
