BMWED General Chairpersons Request Clarity on BNSF’s ATI Waiver Plans Published: Feb 20 2026 9:29AM
UntitledBMWED General Chairpersons representing BNSF members have formally requested that BNSF provide a detailed written plan regarding its use of the Federal Railroad Administration’s Automated Track Inspection (ATI) waivers, including its current waiver under FRA-2020-0064 and the newly approved national ATI waiver under FRA-2025-0059.
With BNSF operating under a time-limited extension of FRA-2020-0064 and the option to transition to FRA-2025-0059, the BMWED General Chairpersons are seeking clarity on whether BNSF intends to make that transition and how it would be implemented.
BMWED has specifically requested information on timelines, employee training, compliance with FRA conditions, and safeguards to ensure no subdivision transitions occur before affected employees are fully trained.
