Remembering Brother Jeremy Charles Published: Feb 26 2026 9:50AM
UntitledIt is with deep sadness that our Brotherhood must report a workplace fatality that occurred on February 23rd.
Brother Jeremy S. Charles, 39, a four year member of BMWED United Passenger Rail Federation Local Lodge 3011, was fatally struck by a train early in the morning while cleaning switches in the blizzard around Lancaster, Pa.
While a complete investigation is still ongoing, Brother Charles was using a jetpack to clear snow and likely did not hear the approaching train. Brother Charles was employed by Amtrak.
Brother Charles leaves behind his beloved wife and two wonderful daughters, who now face this heartbreaking loss. Jeremy had a passion for hunting with his parents and, above all, cherished time with his children, traveling from one sporting event to another and proudly cheering on his girls.
Our deepest and most sincere condolences go out to Brother Charles, his family, co workers, Union Brothers, and many friends. It has been a heavy time and his colleagues are hurting.
We all understand the danger of our profession, but the hurt of a loss is continually deep and painful. Every day we return home to our loved ones is a blessing. Please be safe out there.
