National Freight Railroad Bargaining Update - September 6, 2022 Published: Sep 6 2022 3:02PM
The BMWED Bargaining Committee met with the NCCC on August 29th through August 31st and engaged in discussions regarding PEB 250’s recommendations for travel allowances and away from home expenses for BMWED Members. Several of the BMWED System Divisions and Federations have also engaged in discussions with the railroads regarding the application of PEB 250’s recommendations for each respective railroad agreement. While the parties have not yet reached a tentative agreement, BMWED remains committed to engaging in negotiations with the carriers.
On September 2nd, the National Mediation Board issued a notice to the carriers and the various Unions, including BMWED, instructing the parties that have not reached a tentative agreement to attend meetings beginning on September 7th and continuing through September 9th. These meetings are to be facilitated by the NMB.
“BMWED remains committed to engage in discussions with the carriers and I am ever hopeful that a voluntary agreement will be reached, BMWED President Tony D. Cardwell said. “We are prepared to negotiate whenever, wherever.”
Further bargaining updates, including the results of the NMB’s facilitated discussions, will be provided as information develops.
