Employees of The Genesee & Wyoming Railroad Vote Overwhelmingly to Join BMWED Union

Approximately 70 maintenance of way employees on traveling production gangs with Genesee & Wyoming Railroad Engineering Services voted today to become members of the Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way Employes (BMWED). They are the first of the mobile gangs on the G&W to join the ranks of our Brotherhood.
The newest members comprise of three tie gangs and two bridge and building crews and are employed throughout the G&W’s sprawling track system.
In a vote count conducted today by the National Mediation Board the employees approved BMWED representation by an overwhelming 8-to-1 margin. The vote is unofficial but is expected to be verified and approved tomorrow.
The entirety of the BMWED welcomes our newest Brothers and Sisters on G&W RES and applaud them for recognizing the immense value and importance of collective action and solidarity. The next step is a collectively bargained agreement that improves the working lives, wages and benefits for these Brothers and Sisters.
