Change Coming to Pharmacy Benefit Manager Next Year for Members Covered under National Plan

Effective Jan. 1, 2025, BMWED members covered under the National Plan will have a new pharmacy benefit manager (PBM). Optum Rx will replace Express Scripts, Inc. All covered plan members, including eligible spouses and dependents, will automatically be enrolled.

The change in PBM vendors does not alter any other collectively bargained drug copays or coverage. There is no additional cost to members with this switch in vendor.

The agreement reached in 2022 included provisions for the National Carriers’ Conference Committee (management) and the Cooperating Railway Labor Organizations (Unions) to jointly rebid health and welfare service providers. The aim is to ensure the highest quality benefits and top customer service for all members. The result of that provision is this change in vendor to Optum Rx.

No action is required at this time. You will receive additional information in the coming months, including new Optum Rx membership cards. Please make sure that both your employer and your Union have your current address on file to ensure you receive your new pharmacy benefit cards.

Express Scripts, Inc. will continue to serve as your PBM until the transition on Jan. 1, 2025.
