The Teamsters Rail Conference is pleased to offer its hearty congratulations to Congresswoman Dina Titus on her appointment as the next Ranking Member of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Railroads, Pipelines, Hazardous Materials Subcommittee (“Rail Subcommittee”).

The Teamsters Rail Conference is part of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters (IBT) and is comprised of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen (“BLET”) and Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way Employes Division (“BMWED”) and collectively represents over 50% of unionized rail workers in the United States.

The Rail Subcommittee’s jurisdiction is critical to the interests and wellbeing of the BLET and BMWED rail workers that the Teamsters Rail Conference has the privilege of representing. The 119th Congress will likely address issues of fundamental importance to the Rail Conference, including improving rail safety and reauthorizing the federal surface transportation legislation that fund vital rail entities including Amtrak and other critical passenger and freight rail improvement programs.

Congresswoman Titus in her time in Congress and as a member of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee has been a leader in supporting rail workers, including BLET and BMWED members. That leadership includes her championing of key rail safety issues like train crew size, long time advocacy of advancing high speed rail in this Country, including the watershed Brightline West Project between Las Vegas and Southern California, and her support for paid sick leave for Class I freight rail workers.

Given the Congresswoman’s family experience working in the rail industry, the Rail Conference knows she will always have the back of rail labor. The Rail Conference looks forward to working with Congresswoman Titus over the next two years on these critical issues.

The Rail Conference also wants to extend its congratulations to Congressman David Rouzer of North Carolina for his appointment as Chair of the House Transportation & Infrastructure Rail Subcommittee. The Rail Conference looks forward to building a closer relationship with him and working with him to address issues critical to BLET and BMWED members.
